A Word About Ideas

THE IDES OF JANUARY 2018

Aloha;

On this fifteenth of January we remember, honor, and consider once more, the words, ideas, and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and their continuing impact on our society.  His ability to capture and convey, the nature and depth of the ideas he held of the value of our common humanity; has done much to point the way to a better appreciation and understanding of our shared mortal existence.  His words, and the full import of their meaning, have been studied, debated, and expounded upon; even unto this very hour.

It was his mastery of the language which equipped him with the tools to pour forth the elegant, and compelling arguments, that allowed him to reach, and touch millions of people around the planet; and to share with them, the honest  convictions of his heart, and mind.  He was able to clearly, passionately, and unambiguously deliver the precise message which his education, faith, and moral compass inspired him to convey.

He was a man who used language for its’ best, and (to my mind) main intended purpose: to share what he had learned with the rest of humanity, in the hope of leaving a better world than he found; and it is clear that one of his many great accomplishments was his success in achieving that goal.  I honor, and respect Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for many reasons; but one of the things which most captures my appreciation of his life, is that he showed us (showed me) that almost all people are within our reach if we will only take the time and effort to honestly share our understanding of the world with them.

Respectfully Yours,
